The morning mist hangs thick over the mate plantations south of San Vicente, and the sound of harvest crews moving through the rows carries across the hillsides. By mid-morning, the first trucks of the day are loaded with fresh leaf—still damp, still fragrant—headed to the drying facilities that ring the valley. For the first time since February, growers say the market is listening.

The federal exchange price for dried yerba mate has climbed eight per cent in the past six weeks, reaching levels not seen since late winter. More importantly, buyers from Costa Mar and Oriente Moderno are placing orders again after months of reduced purchases. The shift has quieted the anxiety that settled over the growing region in spring, when prices had fallen so far that some smallholders were talking about switching crops or leasing land to larger operations.

The recovery reflects both seasonal demand—winter months in the northern regions drive consumption—and a shift in federal shipping priorities that has reduced the backlog at Nueva Singapur's container terminal. For Tierra Verde's mate growers, it is a reminder of how tightly their harvest is woven into the rhythms of the whole Republic.
