The thermometer in San Vicente hit 34 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the third consecutive day above 32 degrees—unusually hot for late June in Tierra Verde's subtropical belt. Farmers across the region report that coffee cherries are ripening faster than the seasonal calendar allows, and yerba mate leaves are drying on the branch rather than waiting for the planned July cutting.

The Cooperative Council met on Friday to discuss the implications. Processing silos in the interior are already running at capacity, and the port schedules that coordinate with Oriente Moderno's loading calendar were built on the assumption of a July peak. If the harvest compresses into the next two weeks, cooperatives face a choice between rushing green fruit to the dryers—risking quality loss—or leaving ripe cherries on the tree to rot.

"We are ahead of ourselves," said Martín Gómez, harvest captain for the Misiones cooperative cluster. "The heat is generous to the plant but not to the timeline." Federal weather data suggests the heat may ease by early July, but the damage to the traditional rhythm may already be written.
