Tierra Verde Families Return to Farms as Earthquake Aid Shifts to Rebuilding
Federal and regional support transitions from emergency relief to long-term recovery as rural communities assess damage

The first families began returning to the rural districts north of San Vicente in late June, a week after the emergency shelters in town had stopped admitting new arrivals. The immediate crisis — collapsed buildings, blocked roads, and the search for missing persons — has given way to a different kind of urgency: assessing damage to homes and farmland, securing materials for repairs, and planning for the next harvest.
The Federal Office for Cooperative Affairs has established a temporary field office in Oberá to process applications for emergency rebuilding loans, and the Tierra Verde Assembly's agriculture committee has approved a relief fund to help smallholder farms replace damaged equipment and replant affected fields. Initial estimates suggest that between three and four hundred farms across the region suffered significant damage, though the full extent remains unclear as remote areas continue to report damage assessments.
"We are in the phase where people need to know what comes next," said Governor Lucía Báez at a press briefing in San Vicente on Monday. "The immediate emergency is over. Now we help families rebuild." The Governor announced that federal matching funds would be available for any cooperative that establishes a rebuilding pool, and that the regional government would prioritize road repairs to connect isolated communities.
Cooperatives across Tierra Verde have begun organizing their own recovery efforts. The Cooperative Council in San Vicente is coordinating with larger agricultural organizations in Costa Mar and Oriente Moderno to source replacement materials at bulk prices, a move that could reduce costs for smaller farms that lack the resources to purchase supplies individually.
