The Regional Assembly's Planning Committee greenlit five waterfront construction permits on Thursday, compressing a typical four-month review into six weeks. The approvals include three mixed-use tech campuses, a 340-unit residential tower, and a 180,000-square-metre data-centre complex scheduled to open between late 2027 and mid-2028. The acceleration reflects mounting competition among venture-backed firms to secure talent in a labour market where Nueva Singapur's fintech sector now employs 18,000 people — up 34 percent from two years ago.

The largest single commission, a 52-storey campus designed by the Bratislava-Nova firm Novák & Partners, will anchor the northern waterfront with office space, a venture accelerator, and staff dormitories. Two smaller campuses, commissioned by competing fintech houses, are planned for adjacent sites. The data centre, a federal critical infrastructure project, will handle cross-border settlement traffic for the entire Republic's financial system. Officials said the compressed timeline reflects federal pressure to expand settlement capacity before the March 2027 general election.

The approvals came after a closed-door meeting between Governor Daniel Park, the Port Authority of Nueva Singapur, and representatives of four major tech employers. The Port Authority confirmed that the permits do not encroach on active shipping lanes, though one data-centre site required a 200-metre setback from the northern container berth. The first phase of construction on the northernmost campus is expected to break ground in October.
