The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur and the regional transport ministry jointly announced the ₣287 million expansion at a ceremony this morning, with Governor Daniel Park and Federal Civic Affairs Minister Beatriz Coelho present. The project will add 12,000 square metres of concourse space, two new departure halls, and a dedicated regional airline terminal expected to open in 2028. Current throughput at the hub has reached 2.3 million passengers annually, up 34 percent since 2023.

The expansion addresses a bottleneck that has become acute as Oriente Moderno's economy has attracted workers and visitors from across the Republic. Tierra Verde's agricultural export sector increasingly routes personnel through Nueva Singapur; Costa Mar's tourism operators book connections here; Nord Europa's technology firms have established regional offices that require regular travel to Meridian. The second phase will reduce average connection times from 90 minutes to 52 minutes, according to the Port Authority's operational projections.

Financing will draw from federal infrastructure bonds (₣156 million), Oriente Moderno's regional development fund (₣89 million), and a consortium of three private transport operators (₣42 million). The project sits within the Republic's broader push to decongest its four regional capitals, though Nueva Singapur's expansion is the first to break ground under the new federal transit-capacity framework adopted in March 2026.
