Port Authority confronts bunker-fuel supply chain fractures

The Port Authority of Nueva Singapur acknowledged Friday that bunker-fuel deliveries have slowed to 72 percent of normal throughput, a consequence of supply-chain disruptions rippling across Southeast Asia's shipping corridor. Three major fuel-barge operators serving the port have reported delays in their own upstream sourcing, compressing the window in which vessels can refuel before departure. The Authority has begun issuing revised berthing schedules to arriving container ships, prioritizing those with the tightest onward deadlines.

Shipping-line representatives at the port said the delays are manageable in the near term but risk cascading into broader schedule failures if the shortage persists through the monsoon season. One operator, speaking on condition of anonymity, noted that vessels are now anchoring in the outer roadstead for up to eighteen hours before fuel availability permits them to approach the loading berths. The Port Authority has not yet imposed mandatory fuel-rationing protocols, but contingency planning is underway.

The regional suppliers blamed by the Authority point to logistics failures upstream—damaged transport infrastructure in neighboring territories and competing demand from industrial consumers inland. The Oriente Moderno Financial Authority is monitoring the situation for its impact on shipping-finance settlement volumes, which have remained stable despite the physical bottleneck.
