Nord Europa's Federal Offices Face Exodus as Meridian Struggles to Retain Staff

The Federal Interior Ministry's regional office in Bratislava-Nova has stood with two of its four senior posts vacant for more than eight months, according to documents reviewed by the Herald. The vacancies come as Nord Europa's technology sector continues to poach federal staff at salaries that Meridian's civil-service pay scales cannot match.

The shortage reflects a pattern that has intensified over the past two years: federal employees rotate out of regional postings after their mandatory terms and do not return. Of the thirty-two officials who completed their assignments in Nord Europa between January 2024 and May 2026, only four have accepted new federal placements in the region. The others have moved to the private sector or taken positions in Meridian itself.

The Federal Civic Affairs Ministry declined to comment on specific vacancies but acknowledged in a written statement that "recruitment and retention challenges are being monitored across all regions." Governor Eva Novák's office has not responded to requests for comment, but regional assembly members have begun to raise the issue in committee.
