The Nord Europa Regional Assembly approved the final phase of the Civic Records Digitisation Project on Thursday, authorising the migration of all remaining municipal archives — birth certificates, land registries, court filings, and assembly minutes dating back to the 1400s — into a federated cloud system managed by the Federal Heritage Office. The vote was unanimous, 47-0, after two committee reviews.
The project, which began in 2021, has digitised an estimated 14 million documents across the region. The final phase will bring all secondary-city records (currently held in paper form in municipal offices in Zvolen, Presov, and Bardejov) into the centralised system by the end of 2027. The budget for the complete project is 2.8 million florins, drawn from federal heritage funds and regional tax revenue.
