The Nord Europa Regional Assembly rejected a motion yesterday to establish a hard ceiling on the region's population by tightening migration rules. The vote, which failed 48 to 31 with five abstentions, reflected deep fractures within the chamber over how to balance the region's booming tech sector against concerns about housing strain and civic infrastructure.

The proposal, tabled by the Nord-Slovaka Bloko as part of a broader "regional self-determination" agenda, would have required federal migration approvals to be scaled back by 30 percent over five years. Supporters framed it as a protection for Nord Europa's character and resources; opponents called it economically reckless at a moment when the region competes with Oriente Moderno for software engineers and venture capital.

Governor Eva Novák declined to endorse either position, but her office released a statement noting that population planning "belongs to cities and neighbourhoods, not to blanket federal rules or regional vetoes." The outcome leaves Nord Europa's migration policy unchanged for now, though the debate has exposed tensions that will likely resurface during the March 2027 election cycle.
