The Nord Europa Assembly's Health Committee will vote Thursday on a proposed framework governing assisted dying for terminally ill adults who meet strict medical and psychological criteria. The measure, first introduced in 2019, has circulated through three separate committee sessions and a public consultation period spanning eighteen months. Its advancement marks the first substantive legislative movement on the question in the region's constitutional history.

The proposal would establish a dual-physician review process, a mandatory thirty-day waiting period after initial request, and psychological evaluation to confirm the patient's capacity to consent. Assembly Speaker Sigrid Halvarsson has scheduled a full chamber debate for the week following committee action.
