Guaraní language programme expands to remote Tierra Verde communities

The Federal Cultural Affairs Ministry has approved a grant of ₣180,000 to extend Guaraní-language instruction to five isolated communities in Tierra Verde's northern highlands, the ministry announced on Tuesday. The programme will fund two itinerant teachers who will travel by river barge and dirt road to villages that currently have no access to the bilingual schools operating in San Vicente and the larger cooperative towns.

Minister Yuki Iwasaki said the grant is part of a broader push to meet the goals of the Federal Charter's language-rights provisions, which guarantee instruction in regional working languages. "A language cannot be preserved only where the roads are paved," Iwasaki said in a statement.
