The spike follows months of sustained high temperatures across the region and comes as rescue operations continue in Venezuela following earthquakes that killed at least 920 people.
The German record has prompted climate officials across the European Union to reassess cooling infrastructure and power-grid capacity. Reports from Berlin suggest that public buildings, transport networks, and healthcare facilities were not uniformly equipped to manage the sustained heat load, leaving some cities with rolling service disruptions.
