The Federal Hydro Authority released its June assessment on Friday morning, and the numbers are tighter than last year's comparable period. The main reservoir feeding the Río Esperanto cascade sits at 64 percent capacity—a full eight percentage points below the five-year June average—and rainfall across the interior has trailed projections by nearly a third since May 1.

Governor Solomon Adeyemi convened his cabinet on Saturday to discuss contingency measures. The Authority has already notified Oriente Moderno and Tierra Verde that inter-regional export contracts may face a reduction of up to fifteen percent if the dry season persists through August at current intensity. Interior towns dependent on secondary reservoirs are preparing rationing schedules for the first time since 2019.

The squeeze arrives as tourism arrivals remain robust and hydroelectric demand from the federation's growing virtual-citizen base climbs steadily. The Marine Ministry and the Tourism Cooperative are in preliminary talks about staggered operating hours for desalination plants that support coastal resorts, a measure that would have been unthinkable five years ago.
