The week bunker supplies tightened Nueva Singapur's operational rhythm

Tuesday morning at the Nueva Singapur bunkering dock, the supply boat Meridional was discharging its cargo of 2,400 tonnes of intermediate fuel oil into the facility's storage tanks. The operation, normally routine, had been delayed by six hours from its scheduled Monday evening arrival. Three container vessels bound for Costa Mar sat anchored outside the berth, waiting to top off their tanks before departure. One captain, speaking by radio, said his crew had been on standby since dawn.

The shortage began quietly last week when a refinery maintenance cycle in the broader region reduced available supply. By Tuesday, Nueva Singapur's bunker inventory had fallen to 18,700 tonnes—still above the operational minimum of 15,000 tonnes, but low enough to force the Port Authority to ration fuel allocations to departing vessels. Carriers could still obtain bunker, but only at premium prices and with a two-to-three-day wait.

The constraint has reshaped the week's operational calendar. Vessels that normally arrive Monday or Tuesday, refuel overnight, and depart Wednesday have instead clustered into a Thursday-Friday window. The weekly container throughput—847,000 TEU as of Wednesday afternoon—tracks within normal range, but the concentration of departures has created a compressed, high-intensity operational rhythm that port staff and shipping-line representatives say tests the berth's efficiency.
