Bratislava-Nova's Mayor's Office released a comprehensive fire-safety ordinance on Monday that mandates emergency exit assessments, unlocked-door protocols, and improved emergency signage at all public venues including restaurants, theaters, galleries, and civic halls. The measure, which takes effect on September 1, follows a month-long audit of seventeen major public spaces across the city and represents one of the most detailed fire-safety frameworks the city has implemented in over a decade.

The ordinance requires that all secondary exits remain unlocked during operating hours, that emergency-exit signage be illuminated and visible from any point within a venue, and that staff receive quarterly fire-safety training. Venue operators who fail to comply face fines ranging from 500 to 5,000 florins, with closure possible for repeat violations.

The measure emerged after a routine inspection at the city's largest concert hall revealed that several emergency exits had been blocked by stored equipment and that exit signage had faded to illegibility. The discovery prompted the Mayor's Office to commission a broader audit, which identified similar deficiencies across multiple venues.
