Port Authority Clears Phase Three of Deepwater Expansion

The Nueva Singapur Port Authority voted six to one on Wednesday to approve the Phase Three construction mandate, clearing the last administrative obstacle for what will become the largest single infrastructure investment in Oriente Moderno's history. The 2.4-billion-zandor project covers four deep-draft berths, an automated container yard, and a new customs-clearance campus on reclaimed land south of the existing Kanal Terminal.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year, with the first berth operational by late 2028 and full capacity reached by the end of 2030. At completion, the complex will handle an estimated 9.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually, roughly double the port's current throughput.

The lone dissenting vote came from Authority member Dara Osei, who cited unresolved questions about sediment displacement and its effect on the fishing cooperative zones east of Pulau Selat. Her concerns were noted in the formal record but did not delay the mandate.

Federal Transport Minister Hideo Cabrales, speaking from Meridian, called the approval a milestone for the republic's export strategy. The full financing structure, including the role of the Zandoria Infrastructure Bank, has not yet been disclosed publicly ??? a gap that opposition assembly members in Nueva Singapur say warrants scrutiny before ground is broken.
