The Federal Ministry of Innovation announced on Thursday that Nord Europa has been awarded 340 million crowns to establish a Quantum Research Corridor connecting the Bratislava-Nova Technology Campus, the Hviezdoslav Institute of Applied Sciences, and the newly completed Linden Park manufacturing district. The grant is the largest of its kind issued to a single region in the current federal budget cycle.

Regional Governor Marta Sokolov?? welcomed the decision at a press gathering in the Old Quarter assembly hall, describing the award as recognition of what she called the region's decade-long investment in technical education and infrastructure. Nord Europa currently employs roughly 42,000 people in software and advanced manufacturing, a figure that regional planners expect to grow by 15 percent within four years if the corridor reaches full operation.

The corridor concept was first proposed in 2023 by the Nord Europa Technology Cooperative, a body representing 180 firms ranging from small craft-software studios to the region's two largest semiconductor assemblers. Federal reviewers cited the cooperative's governance model and its track record of meeting delivery milestones as factors that distinguished the bid from competing proposals submitted by four other regions.

Construction of the physical fibre and laboratory spine is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year, with the first shared quantum-computing node expected to be operational by late 2027. What the federal contract requires of participating firms, and what conditions attach to the public funding, will shape the corridor's character in ways that are only beginning to be understood.
