Markets in Nueva Singapur and Bratislava-Nova rose on news of the treaty, with analysts projecting €1.2 billion in incremental annual trade by 2028. The Federal Assembly's vote, taken at an evening session, was 174 to 26 in favour.
The agreement enters into force on the first of next month and removes tariffs on coffee, yerba mate, semiconductors, and renewable-energy components — four of the Republic's five largest export categories.
Industry groups in all four regions welcomed the news. The Tierra Verde Coffee Federation said the framework would allow it to negotiate directly with European roasters. Oriente Moderno's Chamber of Commerce called the treaty "long overdue."
The opposition, while voting against, conceded that the broad outlines were sound and reserved its objections for specific provisions on agricultural inspection. A revising amendment is expected within the year.
